Student affairs professionals, although often operating as business managers, have traditionally seen their roles as educational, espousing values linked to developing each student as a "whole person." In contrast, the widely-discussed commercialization of higher education is aligned with private (rather than public) benefit, competitiveness, stratified social order, and emphasis on prestige. This session will explore, "What happens to the values espoused by student affairs when an institution assumes a corporate or business mentality?".
