NASPA Call for Resources for Professional Competency Areas

3/22/2015 - 3/2/2020

The Professional Competency Areas for Student Affairs Educators were established by NASPA and ACPA in 2009 and updated in 2015 to “define the broad professional knowledge, skills, and, in some cases, attitudes expected of student affairs professionals regardless of their area of specialization or position role within the field” (ACPA & NASPA, 2010, p.3).

Practitioners, administrators, faculty, and students are using these professional competency areas to develop programs, implement policies, and enhance curricula. Specific examples include instruments to assess graduate program learning outcomes; case studies to showcase implications of the professional competency areas; and modified job descriptions to outline key candidate attributes and parameters for evaluation and professional development for those hired.

To showcase innovative uses of the professional competency areas, the NASPA Professional Standards Division invites student affairs professionals to submit their uses of the professional competency areas in everyday practice. Submissions will be reviewed by the Professional Standards Division and, if selected, will be published online and available for all NASPA members to download from the Professional Standards Division web page.
